The Back Story

broken fenceThe story behind “Startup Small. Dream Big. Grow Fast.”

A few months ago the retaining wall at the back of our house came tumbling down after heavy rain. At first I thought, “How on earth am I supposed to pay for this?” But then, I had an “aha” moment.

I had been chipping away at my business all hours of the day, working like a slave and making very little in return. I felt trapped, overwhelmed and the thought of pouring my hard-earned income into the sinkhole of my back yard was deflating.

Which leads me to that crucial “aha” moment.

In the months since, my business has grown exponentially and yet, I am working fewer hours than ever before.

So what changed?

My perspective.

I realized that I had been making excuses, that I’d been caught up in a poverty mindset. I kept telling myself I couldn’t make much of a profit with my small, very part-time, home based business but at least I could do what I loved without being a burden on my family. Right?

Have you said that to yourself too? If so, I want to ignite some new possibilities in your entrepreneurial brain.

Powerful, faceless people would have you believe that you need to corporatize your business in order to be successful.

The truth is, you don’t have to “just get by.” You can do what you love, live the lifestyle you promised yourself (and your family) and not only turn your business into a thriving enterprise, but make a significant profit.

In 2012, opportunities abound for women that have never existed before. Women no longer need to choose between career and family.  It is possible to start a business at the kitchen table and grow it into something amazing, while being present for the people who matter most to you.

The idea for this telesummit was sparked by my desire to inspire women solopreneurs to expand their ideas on what is possible for their businesses and earn what they are worth, without becoming corporate carbon copies.
